Pakistan came into being on August 14, 1947 and at that time, there existed several small and huge states, which were then asked to make their own decision about whether they want to combine themselves with Pakistan, or they will be joining India as states. Most of the states made decisions about their fate of merging with either India or Pakistan. A few states could not make their decisions and there arose disputes among them. One such state was Kashmir known as the valley of heaven.
The unwilling decision of Kashmir created a situation of dilemma. Many states had made their decision about merging them with which country. At that time, more than half of the Kashmiri population belonged to Muslim community but the head of the state was a Hindu. This situation created dispute between Pakistan and India, which led to a controversy, and the same holds its position now. A state of war was created as India tried to occupy the land of Kashmir. The Kashmiris fought for their freedom and one-third of the valley was set free from the Indian army.
Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah believed that without Kashmir, Pakistan is incomplete. He tried his best to liberate Kashmir from Indian illegal occupation. Quaid’s commitment with Kashmir and Kashmiri people was unfaltering. Quaid’s vision on Kashmir is unequivocal. Quaid knew very well the importance and significance of Kashmir for Pakistanis as well as for Kashmiris. He paid attention to the miserable conditions of Kashmiris even when there was no one to heed their hues and cries. Quaid vociferously condemned the Indian aggression on Kashmir. He wanted the peaceful settlement of the dispute but he was also determined to go to any extent to liberate Kashmir from Indian clutches, which is evident from his bold step to issue orders to the then Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan Army, General Douglas Gracey to dispatch troops to Jammu and Srinagar.
Now, let us talk about the current situation of the land of Kashmir. It consists of two parts. One of the part completely belongs to Pakistan and is known as Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The other is occupied or rather we should say is captured by the Indian Army. A resolution was passed at the early stage of this dispute. A decision was made about the fate of Kashmir. The security council of United Nations issued a resolution according to which, a poll was to be conducted in Kashmir giving Kashmiris the right to chose their own luck. At that time both the countries i.e., Pakistan and India accepted the decision of Security Council and an it was expected that the issue would be solved earlier.
As it was expected that India would not be willing to conduct a poll in Kashmir because they were seeing their failure by a great margin, the same happened. India refused to conduct any type of poll and stated that without any reason, Kashmir is the disputed land of India and Pakistan should stay away from this matter, as it is their internal matter. Pakistan refused to accept such a foolish statement and took the issue to international forum. The decision of poll still stands out even after seventy-two years of independence of Pakistan. India is not agreeing to conduct a poll and the matter remains unsolved yet.
Recently ISPR, an institution of Pakistan Armed Forces released an anthem “Jaa Chorr De Meri Wadi” (Leave Our Land of Heaven). People started to criticize the song and their reason to do so was that we couldn’t win battles on behalf of songs. Another group raised its hand and said that ISPR is not the front line institution of Pakistan Army. It is developed to motivate the nation, give news about the activities of Pakistan and to search places for the betterment of the armed forces.
Allama Muhammad Iqbal motivated the nation through his poetry. His poetry made sure that the Muslims of Sub-continent would get success in their mission of achieving the aim of a separate land where Muslims will not be prohibited from performing their religious activities. If we consider the fact that the cold war can also lead to a win in any sort of battle, our views will be changed. Pak Army is now-a-days overwhelmed in all the institutions of Pakistan. Many people who take it negatively are in the favor that the songs should not be composed as they have no effect on winning the battle or losing it.
A group of people thinks that the anthems have no effects on the state of battle. They have an opinion that only weapons can defeat the opposition and songs have somewhat no relation with the victory or defeat. While another group gives, the examples of Allama Muhammad Iqbal as His poetry motivated the nation and the Muslims united for their freedom. Allama Iqbal is known as the “Shair-e-Mashriq”. Now it depends upon you to decide which group satisfies its theories about the co-relation of anthems and war.
